Sam Stephens has a deep interest in people and a particular passion for bringing people together. This is reflected in his founding of streetbank – a NESTA funded social enterprise bringing neighbours together, in organising street parties and in his decision to join executive search firm, Saxton Bampfylde straight out of university. Sam founded Macaulay in 2008 and has led much of Macaulay’s work at Oxfam, World Vision and the Blue Cross. Sam read geography at the University of Edinburgh and completed an MBA at Imperial College Business School. Sam is a qualified executive coach and takes a lead on people seeking to make a career transition.
Ewen McAlpine began his career by working in grassroots community development in Ponce, Kampala, Paris and Washington DC. He then worked for the geo-political and macro-economic advisory firm Oxford Analytica before joining the executive search firm Perrett Laver where as Senior Consultant he helped build the Global Development Practice. He works on CEO appointments for some of the world’s largest organisations as well as relishing serving some of the smallest and quirkiest! Ewen graduated from Princeton University. He lives in East London and works flexibly to allow a day a week for local community engagement.
Mark Powys-Smith began his career in Investor Relations at Taylor Rafferty before moving to Brussels to work at the European Parliament and subsequently the not for profit sector. He was Executive Assistant to Canon Andrew White at the Foundation for Reconciliation in the Middle East and Research Manager at Opportunity International, a global microfinance organisation. Prior to joining Macaulay he was a Consultant at the executive search firm Perrett Laver working on Board, Chief Executive and Senior Administrative appointments within the Global Development, Sustainability and Non-Profit Sectors. He has a BA (Hons) in French and Spanish and an MSc in International Relations from the University of Bristol. Mark loves learning languages and singing. He is currently tackling Bosnian and sings at weddings.
Laura Bagley has twenty years’ experience in the UK and international charitable sectors. She has fulfilled leadership roles in a number of charities, most recently as Director of Commissioning at Resurgo. Laura read English at Cambridge University and enjoys creative writing and research projects. Alongside her role with Macaulay, Laura works flexibly in order to continue voluntary work with women who face considerable challenges such as drug and alcohol addictions, mental health issues and social isolation.
Jenny Walker is Macaulay Search’s Operations Manager. She worked with a missionary organisation in France before moving to London and has since worked in education management, teaching and support work within the charity sector. Jenny has an undergraduate degree in French and Language Studies and is currently undertaking an MSc in Counselling alongside her work at Macaulay Search.
